I’ll eat chocolate day or night.
Anyone that knows me, knows that I keep a constant supply of Ghirardelli 60% Cacao chocolate chips in the kitchen at all times. A handful of these guys, and I’m my chocolate tooth is fully satisfied.
But chocolate for breakfast? That takes a little skills.
For breakfast I need something that’s going to fill me up, keep me going strong for the day and satisfy my need for chocolate straight through to lunch.
When I found this recipe for a healthy chocolate morning smoothie, I was skeptical.
And then I was in love.
Most chocolate smoothies are nowhere near chocolaty enough for me.
But this one? THIS one. Let’s just say, this is THE ONE.
I can’t say I never throw a squirt of whipped cream on top for good measure. Yes, yes in the morning, I know.
But depending on what brand you pick, it’s only adding about 15 calories per 2 tbsp squirt. You’d get way more than that by filling up a bowl of Cocoa Puffs and adding 2% milk, or even getting a morning mocha.
And both of those would for sure not have all the protein, omega-3’s and deliciousness from this smoothie.
This tastes like a frozen hot chocolate.
Or maybe a chocolate milkshake. Who cares. I’ll take both. Or either.
Dessert for breakfast, guys. And it’s healthy?! It can get really real out here.
Frozen Hot Chocolate Healthy Morning Smoothie
It's like drinking a chocolate milkshake for breakfast. But way healthier. Flax gets you a solid serving of omega-3's, Greek yogurt gets you protein to keep you full, cocoa powder gets you a nice dose of antioxidants (and good taste, clearly). Rich, creamy and indulgent. This one's for my chocolate lovers!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened chocolate almond milk
- 2 tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp instant coffee granules Add more if you're looking for a mocha thing (or a caffeine boost - I don't judge)
- 1 cup frozen plain Greek yogurt Yes! You can do this. Keep a few single serving containers in the freezer for smoothie day when you're not using frozen fruit. Or freeze Greek yogurt that's about to expire in ice cube trays instead of tossing.
- Sweetener to taste optional
Instructions
-
Toss everything into a blender and blend until smooth.
-
Pour, drink, enjoy!
