The Eat Better, Get Healthy series are 3 posts that focus on the basics of a healthy diet.
Eat better, get healthy
This series of posts is designed specifically for beginners to healthy eating. Those of us who are just starting to think about making some kind of diet change, but aren’t really sure where to start.
Part 1: Be better at eating vegetables
Part 2: 1 week to a low salt diet
Part 3: 4 steps to cut your sugar in half
These aren’t quick fixes. These are lifestyle changers.
You won’t see everything change all at once. Anything that promises immediate results are promising you something unsustainable.
It’s easy to buy a new protein powder for the perfect after-gym shake. It can be a lot harder to actually go to the gym. Swearing off carbs after seeing how much weight your cousin lost, is easy. Figuring out what you’re going to eat for lunch after you’re sick of salads, is way harder.
What you will get here is long-term health.
And if you follow this guide, you’ll start to see things change right away.
Getting healthy is only as good as our ability to make changes that address the root causes of our health. This is why Eat Better, Get Healthy starts with 3 of the biggest eating challenges people have: getting enough vegetables, eating less salt and eating less sugar.
One of the biggest traps I see people falling into, is an idea that to be healthy looks one way.
Or to be eat healthfully means the same thing for everyone. Even worse, that where you’re starting is the same as where I’m starting.
We’re different people. We’ve lived different lives with different decisions. We have different body types and different genes. We’re not the SAME PERSON.
How can we POSSIBLY be starting at the same place.
What worked for your cousin might not work for me at all. And if it fails, I’m going to feel really REALLY bad about that failure. It worked for her, so what’s wrong with me?
The answer is NOTHING is wrong with you.
You just need to start at your own beginning.
We have to honor our own starting points. We have to pay attention to what’s realistic for us. Only then will we be able to make the decisions that will help us reach our own personal, optimal health.
Over the next 3 posts, we’re going to be looking at 3 ways to start eating better.
Each of these ways are easy to personalize and will let you find your flow. They’re by no means exhaustive. Meaning, you’re not going to turn over your entire world with these 3 things.
But you will create a solid foundation. I’ve chose the 3 most common places people can improve their diet. Starting here, doing these small things daily, will set you up for huge changes tomorrow.
1st: Be better at eating vegetables
2nd: 1 week to a low salt diet
3rd: Cut your sugar in half in 4 steps
At the end of each post, there’ll be a challenge for you.
A way to take everything you just read and put it into real practice. Because these aren’t just nice ideas. These are the things that will change everything for you, if you put them into practice.
I’ve included some free worksheets and free downloads that will help you work through each step. Click here to access them in my resource library, or you can sign up here to get the password.
Don’t downplay the small steps.
Every long journey had to begin with that first step. Let yourself start at your beginning.
