I broke down this list of quick healthy snacks so it’s nice and easy to get through.
Because there’s nothing worse than having a list with all these great ideas, and no time to actually read through it. Kind of defeats the point, right?
Here you’ve got a a couple choices of how easy you want your snacks to be.
You can take 2 minutes (literally 2 minutes) and put your snack together. Or you can take (maybe) 5 minutes and do a tiny bit of work today, so you have to do no work tomorrow.
Both are easy. All are healthy. You can also download this list along with the recipes (and shopping list!) as an easy printable that’s perfect for your fridge.
Make in 2 minutes, right now snacks
Pumpkin spice yogurt
Greek yogurt combined with a spoonful of pureed pumpkin, honey and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice Topped off with a handful of almonds (or pecans), and you’ve got something that’s high in fiber, protein and will actually keep you full until the next meal time.
2 eggs on toast: any style you want
Once you learn the amazing joys of keeping hard boiled eggs in the fridge, you’ll never go back to having no boiled eggs around. You can definitely scramble a couple eggs on the fly in about 2 minutes for this snack. OR you can skip ALL the clean-up and just peel a 2 eggs and make a sandwich in the same amount of time.
Hummus or bean dip with whole grain crackers
Nothing to actually make here. UNLESS you’re a superstar and want to make your own hummus. Which I completely recommend, because there’s not a lot of things better than homemade hummus. But if you’re like me 99% of the time, a good quality hummus like Abraham’s + some yummy crackers like regular ol’ Trisuits will be just fine.
Apple slices with PB or cheddar
Chop up an apple. Get a big spoonful of peanut butter (or your favorite nut butter), or a slice of sharp cheddar cheese and snack is done. This packs really well. If you’re the type who’s always running and only has time to cram the apple in your bag, these single serving peanut butter packs make everything even easier.
Peanut butter and banana sandwich
I’ve got to admit, bananas are not my favorite. I like them cooked, like in this 15 minute banana bread. Bananas have always been one of those foods I WISHED I like, because they’re so easy. And this sandwich is exactly that. Easy. Great bread, sliced banana, honey drizzle and you’re good to go. Mix it up with strawberries instead of banana.
Parfait
A couple scoops of Greek yogurt, a spoonful of granola, layered with frozen berries and it’s done. You’ve just made yourself the perfect snack. Extra points if you combine the pumpkin yogurt recipe up top and turn it into a parfait.
Herb goat cheese and red peppers
This tastes so much fancier than the time it takes you to put it together. The 2 minutes will be taken up slicing a red pepper. Unless you’ve already done the hard work, and happen to have some pre-sliced peppers laying around. Like the hummus, I always encourage making your everything and if you feel inspired, here’s a great recipe to get you started.
Takes 5 minutes to plan-ahead, snacks
Coconut toasted almonds
Almonds, coconut oil, cinnamon, salt and some sugar. Toss together and bake. It might take a tad longer than 5 minutes to finish in the oven, but it’ll take less than that to actually GET it in the oven . And once they’re done, they’re done.
Greek yogurt fro-yo bark
Perfect for breakfast. Perfect for after dinner. Perfect anytime. They’re so easy to make and can turn into any flavor you want, keeping some in the freezer at all times will easily become mandatory. When I run out, I spend WAY too much time thinking about what new flavor I’m going to make next. Grab the recipe here.
Trail mix
Never buy trail mix again. Why bother? You can make it SO much better on your own. And the only reason this one lands on the 5 minute list instead of the 2 minute list is because you might take a few extra minutes walking back and forth to the cabinet for another layer of flavor. Think: nuts + dried fruit + something sweet (I like 70% dark chocolate chips). It’s a no-fail combination.
Roasted chickpeas
Another one that takes 5 minutes to get into the oven, and then all the hard work is over. After that, you’ve got a snack that will take zero minutes to prep. Start here for some ideas.
Even better if you put them directly into individual sandwich snack baggies right away, so all you’ve got to do is grab and go.
What flavor will you be making next?
